Privacy Policy

Review Radar for Amazon

Summary

Review Radar analyses Amazon reviews to help you spot fakes. We send review text to our server for analysis but don't store it. We store anonymised metadata (hashed IDs, product codes, dates) to detect fake review campaigns - no personal information is retained. We don't track your browsing.

What Data We Process

When you view an Amazon product page, Review Radar sends the following to our servers for analysis:

  • Review text - The content of visible reviews (processed then discarded)
  • Review metadata - Rating, verified purchase status, helpful votes, date
  • Product identifier - The Amazon ASIN (public product code)
  • Product name - The product title from the Amazon listing (processed then discarded, used to detect if reviewers unnaturally use exact product names)
  • Reviewer profile URL - Used to create an anonymised identifier

Anonymised Pattern Detection

To detect fake review campaigns, we store anonymised metadata after analysis:

  • Hashed reviewer ID - A one-way cryptographic hash (cannot be reversed to identify anyone)
  • Product ASIN - The public Amazon product code
  • Review date and rating - To detect suspicious timing patterns
  • Trust score - The score we assigned

This allows us to detect:

  • Timing clusters - Many reviews posted on the same day
  • Reviewer patterns - Reviewers who consistently post suspicious reviews
  • Coordinated campaigns - Groups of reviewers targeting the same products

Important: We do NOT store review text, reviewer names, or any personally identifiable information. The hashed ID cannot be reversed - even we cannot determine who wrote a review.

What We Store Locally

The extension stores the following on your device:

  • Usage count - How many scans you've used this month
  • Licence status - Whether you're on Free, Pro, or Power User
  • Licence key - If you've activated a paid licence
  • Device ID - A random identifier for licence activation (not linked to you personally)

All local data is stored using Chrome's built-in storage and never leaves your device (except the licence key during validation).

Usage Analytics

To improve our extension, we collect minimal analytics when you install or uninstall:

  • Install events - When the extension is first installed (tracked via the help page that opens)
  • Browser type - Which browser you're using (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera)
  • Uninstall events - When the extension is uninstalled (you'll see an optional survey page)
  • Uninstall feedback - If you choose to complete the survey, we store your selected reason and any written feedback you provide

This data is anonymized and used solely to understand which browsers to prioritize and how to improve the extension. We don't track your browsing activity, usage patterns, or create user profiles.

What We Don't Do

  • No browsing tracking - We don't know what sites you visit
  • No purchase tracking - We don't see what you buy
  • No review storage - Reviews are analysed and discarded
  • No personal profiles - We don't build profiles about you
  • No third-party sharing - Your data isn't sold or shared
  • No ads - We don't show advertisements

Permissions Explained

The extension requests the following permissions:

  • storage - To save your usage count and licence locally
  • Amazon marketplace access - To display indicators on Amazon product pages (supports all marketplaces worldwide including US, UK, Germany, France, Japan, Canada, Australia, Spain, Italy, India, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Belgium, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Singapore, and Brazil)

We request only the minimum permissions needed for the extension to function.

Our Servers

When you analyse reviews, the review content is sent to our server for AI-powered analysis. This happens over a secure HTTPS connection.

  • Review text is processed immediately and discarded
  • Results are returned to your browser
  • Anonymised metadata (hashed IDs, dates, scores) is stored for pattern detection
  • We may log aggregate statistics (e.g., total requests) for monitoring

Authentication & Security

To protect our service from abuse and ensure fair access for all users, Review Radar uses an authentication system:

  • Installation Token: On first use, the extension creates a unique random ID for your device and requests an authentication token from our server. This verifies that requests come from genuine extension installations and prevents unauthorized access.

Data We Collect During Authentication

  • Device Identifier: A randomly generated ID created by your browser (cannot be linked to your identity)
  • Browser Information: Your browser type and version (e.g., "Chrome 120", "Firefox 133")
  • Extension Version: Which version of Review Radar you're running (e.g., "1.1.0")
  • Token Creation Date: When your authentication token was created

Important: These identifiers are used ONLY for authentication, not for tracking. We cannot and do not connect them with your Amazon account, browsing history, or personal identity.

Token Management

  • Token Expiration: Authentication tokens expire every 7 days and refresh automatically
  • Token Storage: Tokens are stored locally on your device, not on our servers
  • Token Revocation: We may revoke tokens to prevent abuse, but cannot identify who owns them
  • Anonymous: Tokens cannot be traced back to you personally

Language and Translations

To display the extension in your language, we detect the language of the Amazon page you're viewing (e.g., French on amazon.fr, German on amazon.de). If it's not English, we fetch translated text from our server.

  • What we send: Only the language code (e.g., "fr", "de", "ja") - no personal information
  • What we receive: Translated UI text for verdict labels and messages
  • Caching: Translations are cached locally on your device to avoid repeated requests

This request contains no personal data - just a two-letter language code.

How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect for these purposes:

  • Review Analysis: To process and analyze reviews for manipulation patterns
  • Pattern Detection: To identify fake review campaigns across products and reviewers
  • Prevent Abuse: Device identifiers and authentication tokens verify genuine extension installations and prevent unauthorized access to our servers
  • Licence Validation: To verify Pro and Power User licences
  • Customer Support: To respond to your questions and issues

Purchases and Payments

If you purchase a Pro or Power User licence, payment is processed by Stripe, a third-party payment processor. When you make a purchase:

  • Stripe receives: Your payment details (card number, billing address), email address, and name
  • We receive: Your email address (to send your licence key) and confirmation that payment was successful
  • We do NOT receive: Your credit card number or full billing details

We store your email address and licence key in our database to validate your licence. This data is:

  • Used only for licence validation and customer support
  • Never shared with third parties (except Stripe for payment processing)
  • Deleted upon request if you email us

Stripe's privacy policy governs how they handle your payment information.

Data Retention

  • Review text: Not retained - processed and discarded immediately
  • Anonymised metadata: Stored indefinitely for pattern detection (cannot identify individuals)
  • Authentication tokens: Expire and refresh automatically every 7 days
  • Device identifiers: Stored for authentication purposes (anonymized, cannot identify individuals)
  • Licence data: Kept until you request deletion or your licence expires
  • Support emails: Kept for customer service purposes

Third-Party Services

Review Radar uses the following third-party services:

  • Deepseek AI: We use Deepseek AI to analyze reviews. Public Amazon data (reviews and product info) is sent to Deepseek for analysis. Deepseek's privacy policy applies to their processing.
  • Stripe: Payment processing for Pro and Power User purchases. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.

Your Rights

Can I opt out of authentication?

No - authentication is required for Review Radar to function. Without valid authentication tokens, the extension cannot access our review analysis service. However, the authentication system is designed to protect your privacy and cannot identify you personally.

Can I request data deletion?

Yes. Email us at info@jollygoodapps.com to request deletion of your licence data and email address. Note that anonymised review metadata cannot be deleted as it cannot be linked back to you.
