How to Use Timestamp Bookmarks
Save your place in any YouTube video
Quick Start
- 1Go to any YouTube video
- 2Click the bookmark icon in the player controls (or press Alt+S)
- 3Add an optional label and save
- 4Click any saved timestamp to jump back to that moment

Saving Timestamps
There are three ways to save your current position in a video:
Method 1: Bookmark Button in Player
Look for the bookmark icon in the YouTube player controls, next to the autoplay toggle. Click it to save the current time.

Method 2: Keyboard Shortcut
Press Alt+S at any time while watching a video. A brief message will confirm it was saved.

Method 3: Extension Popup
Click the extension icon in your browser toolbar. Enter an optional label and click "Save Timestamp".

Adding Labels
Labels help you remember why you saved each moment. When the save dialog appears, type a short description like:
- "Intro ends here"
- "Key formula explained"
- "Good quote for presentation"
- "Favourite part"
Labels are optional - you can leave them blank if you prefer.

Viewing Your Timestamps
On the Video Page
Your saved timestamps appear in a panel below the video. Each timestamp shows the time and your label (if you added one).

In the Extension Popup
Click the extension icon in your toolbar to see timestamps for the current video, or browse all your saved videos.

Jumping to a Timestamp
Click any timestamp to immediately jump to that moment in the video. The video will automatically start playing from that point.

Managing Your Timestamps
Editing a Label
Hover over any timestamp and click the pencil icon to edit its label.
Deleting a Timestamp
Hover over any timestamp and click the bin icon to delete it.

Viewing All Saved Videos
Click the settings icon in the timestamps panel header to open the full management page, where you can browse all your saved videos and timestamps.

Collapsing the Panel
If the timestamps panel is in your way, click the arrow icon in the header to collapse it. Your timestamps are still there - just click to expand again.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of It
- For lectures: Save timestamps for each topic, question, or formula
- For tutorials: Mark the steps you want to practice or revisit
- For music: Bookmark your favourite parts of long DJ sets or live streams
- For podcasts: Mark interesting quotes or discussion points
- Use specific labels: "2:34 - Intro ends" is more useful than just "Intro"
Backup & Restore
Important: Back Up Before Uninstalling
Uninstalling the extension will permanently delete all your timestamps. Chrome does not keep extension data when you uninstall. Always export a backup before removing the extension.
Exporting Your Timestamps
- 1Open the extension settings page (click the gear icon)
- 2Find the "Backup & Restore" section
- 3Click "Export Timestamps"
- 4Save the file somewhere safe (like your Documents folder or cloud storage)
Restoring Your Timestamps
- 1Open the extension settings page
- 2Find the "Backup & Restore" section
- 3Click "Import Timestamps"
- 4Select your backup file
Importing adds to your existing timestamps - it won't delete or overwrite anything.
Syncing Across Devices
If you're signed into Chrome and have sync enabled, your timestamps automatically appear on all your devices (computer, laptop, etc). This happens in the background - you don't need to do anything.
Good to know: If you save a lot of timestamps, some may only be stored on your current device (Chrome has a small limit for synced data). Don't worry - all your timestamps are always saved locally, and the most recent ones sync across devices. For complete peace of mind, use the export feature to keep a full backup.
Troubleshooting
The bookmark button doesn't appear
Try refreshing the page. If it still doesn't appear, use the keyboard shortcut (Alt+S) or the extension popup instead.
My timestamps disappeared
If you uninstalled and reinstalled the extension, or cleared your browser data, your timestamps have been deleted. This is why we strongly recommend using the export feature to back up your data regularly. If you have the extension installed on another synced device, your data may still be there.
The keyboard shortcut doesn't work
Another extension may be using the same shortcut. Go to chrome://extensions/shortcuts to check for conflicts and customise your shortcut.
